Elevating the Board Game experience

Overview

The board game Volfyirion, developed by Tabula Games, is a strategic deck-building game set in a fantasy universe. Players take on the role of leaders of powerful city-states, gathering resources, building their decks, and deploying armies to attack opponents or defend their own cities. The objective is to destroy the opponent's cities or control the fearsome dragon Volfyirion, a creature that can be used as a devastating weapon.

The game is based on resource management, strategy, and combat mechanics, combining quick tactical decisions with a high level of player interaction.

The goal

The goal was to design an app that represents a compendium of the game. It presents features that can support the various phases of the game and others that can be consulted at any time.

The app is on both iOS and Android, but with the same UI for both supports and is entirely in portrait mode. Supported devices are smartphones only.

The app was supposed to have nine sections:

  • Landing screen​ (from which the user can access the various sections);

  • Game Setup​ (visual guide for game setup);

  • Rulebook​ (the game rules);

  • Tabula Awards​ (additional rules created by those who bought the game);

  • Lore​ (The history of the world of Volfyirion);

  • Artbook​ (game illustration gallery);

  • Points Counter​ (where users count their points);

  • Growl​ (area where you can hear Volfyirion's roar);

  • Priority, ​(tool with which users select their turn in a random)
